Rush Limbaugh made some really dumb comments about my fellow Syracuse University alum Donovan McNabb. While this is exactly the type of headlines and outlandish commentary ESPN wanted when they hired Rush for their NFL Primetime program, I think it illustrates a bigger issue in the media these days. Media outlets are suffering because of the erosion of audiences (i.e: as Bruce said: “57 Channels and Nothing On”) and they need to do outrageous things in order to attract audiences and encourage people to take time out of their day to tune in.
I always felt that having a blow-fish like Rush Limbaugh on an football program is just wrong, but ABC is known for taking some weird risks as they did a few years ago by having Dennis Miller in the Monday Night Football booth. Just let Chris Berman and his gang do their thing. They are the best, they do not need a jackass like Rush Limbaugh on their program.
