I have discovered RSS, as some people call real simple syndication, where you can have data feeds incorporated into your web site or blog. It is pretty neat and enables you to add updated info and data to your site. Ah, the power of xml.
I have been getting supremely frustrated with my job search. I do not think i have ever experienced anything quite like this. at least I know I am not alone since the unemployment rate is the highest its been in years. It is also reassuring that it was economic reasons that put me in this situation rather than performance issues. I know, or have heard of, many extremely talented people with backgrounds far more impressive than mine who have been out of work. A friend told me that the recession in the early 1990’s cut the fat from corporations, while this recession (we are still in a recession, even though the economists say otherwise) has been more widespread and I think he is right. I will continue to plug along and I am confident that something will happen and I will catch a break sometime soon! click here to go to my resume.
My daughter Rebecca is obsessed with Nemo from the movie Finding Nemo which was developed by Pixar and Disney. We have taken her to see the movie three times and she has made it to the end only once. And the most amazing thing is that the character Nemo is barely in the movie! Nemo, Elmo, Dora….the characters that a 2 year old obsesses about!
The NYC area is recovering from the huge blackout. Where I am living (Central NJ), we were not really effected by the blackout. There was a “brown out” when all the power went down around 4:15PM on Thursday but then everything turned back on and it was as usual. The weird thing was that I was planning on visiting friends in NYC that evening as a friend was in town from Singapore. I thought about traveling into NYC early that day, but decided against it. I am sooooo glad I did not travel in early, because I would have been stuck in NYC. Literally “Escape from NY“. The video footage of the people waiting to board the NY/NJ ferry was insane, as were the photos of people sleeping on the steps of the US Post Office on 34th Street (Opposite MSG). Overall, I am very happy that I decided to stay around a little longer, because I would not have been happy to be stuck in NYC. I think this is one of my biggest problems with the NYC area…the fact that if something goes wrong, it can cause a near riot and a completely unfathomable situation. Is it really worth it?
I finished the fifth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Overall, it was an extremely long book and was a bit tedious…however, the ending is fantastic and the last three/four chapters made up for the rest of the book. It definitely will make for great reading as the series winds down with years 6 and 7!
I finished the first four books of the Harry Potter series in a little less than a month. It was very easy reading, I must say. The books got progressively longer and progressively more interesting, with the fourth book being the most interesesting to me.
Today I went into NYC to have an informational interview at a major ad agency. The person I met was introduced to me by my former media director at McCaffrey & McCall. it was a productive meeting and I think it may lead to something in the future. we shall see. being unemployed has been a very frustrating process, but the only reassurance is the fact that iknow i am not alone. in fact, it was recently reported that unemployment benefits have reached the highest level in 20 years.
This is my first blog. I have no idea what will become of this exercise or my site in general. This could get very boring very quickly, or maybe I could engage you in some amazingly useless idle banter. All I hope is that if someone comes to my site, they do not say “this is why the internet is useless and a waste of space.” So with that, surf on.
