This week IFC is running Monty Python: Almost the Truth, The Lawyers Cut, the “definitive” documentary on Monty Python as they celebrate their 40th anniversary this year. If you have not set your DVR, please do so as the first two episodes have been very interesting and entertaining. They interview the members of Monty Python who provide some great perspective on their thoughts and mindsets when they were creating their famous skits. Last nights was great because they went through some of the favorite skits from the Python troupe as well as some famous (and not famous) comedians and writers. Some of the skits that were called out include:

Mr. Hilter Living in Maidenhead

Dead Parrot Sketch

Penguin on the Telly

And many, many others. If you are any sort of comedy and Monty Python fan, this is a must watch.

This is pure comedy.

A football player from the Washington Redskins, Chris Cooley, trying to be all hip and cool with his own blog, posted a photo of a quiz (NSFW) he was taking on the New Orleans Saints defense, because he wanted to try out posting to his blog on his own. He did this while he was naked. And you can see everything. And he didn’t realize it. And it was on his blog for a full day, Sunday, while he was playing the game against the Saints.

Then, he posted an apology that is funnier than the offending post itself.

Don’t mix technology and football players.

Rating: PG-13
Released: August 15, 2008
Starring: Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Steve Coogan, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Brandon T.
Sometimes, I don’t think Ben Stiller gets enough credit for the brilliance of his comedy. I am absolutely convinced that if Robert Downey, Jr. did not snort his life away while he was in his 20′s and 30′s, he’d be an even bigger star than he is already, and would have a couple of Oscars under his belt by now. His performance in this movie was top notch, hilarious even. This was one of the funnier movies I’ve seen in a while (a nod to my wife Lisa who suggested we go). Its not one of those outlandish comedies like Wedding Crashers, but is a very smart, well written, astutely cast films that just works. None of the actors take themselves too seriously, especially Cruise and McConaughey. Its one of those movies where you either get it, or you don’t.

Jon Stewart is in absolutely rarified form these days with all the news about VP Dick Cheney shooting one of his fellow Republicans at a ranch in Texas. I wish no ill will on Mr. Whittington, the man whom Mr. Cheney shot (giggle, giggle), as the reports are that he had a heart attack and is slow to recover. But this is one of the most hilarious political stories in a long, long time. And the talk shows are rightfully having a field day.

Here is just a fantastic article from Bill Simmons (aka The Sports Guy) of ESPN that again sums up the state of being a Red Sox fan during this state of sheer extacy. It just amazes me that people like this become famous and that there are others out there who actually pay to waste two hours of their life watching this bimbo on the big screen. And even scarier, there are executives and movie studios paying her. Hollywood never ceases to amaze me.
