1984

Did you notice that the person who created the “controversial” Hillary Clinton 1984 “Vote Different” knock off of the Apple 1984 ad went to the detail and trouble of putting an iPod, ear buds/wire and all, on the sledge hammer toting woman in the video? Now that’s a pretty impressive bit of editing.

Opening Day

This is the happiest week of the year. The 2007 baseball season will kick off this week with the Mets taking on the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow evening (April 1, 2007).

In my opinion however, I have been a little dissapointed in Major League Baseball (not that its too difficult to be disappointed with the leadership of MLB these days) for doing away with the tradition of having the Cincinnati Reds, the oldest MLB team, kick off the season with their home opener (traditionally on a Tuesday I believe) in favor of a Sunday evening game on ESPN.

Having the Reds play the very first game to open up the MLB season was just a neat tradition and an acknowledgment of the importance of that franchise to the great history of the game. At worst, could they not shift the Reds game to the Sunday Night Game on ESPN to kick off the season? Could they not, for one day, think of the tradition, history, and greater good of the game to keep a nice tradition intact? And give the city of Cincinnati the baseball spotlight to kick off the season?

Popular

People do vanity searches. Its part of the dark underbelly of the Internet.

So, this evening I was checking my site’s traffic/stats and I noticed a decent amount of traffic to the old site. So for a goof, I did a “vanity search”…you know, searching on your own name…just to see where I ranked and to kind of get a sense of why people may be visiting my site.

Well, it appears that I am now the most popular Stephen Clark on the Internet At least, that’s what Google and Yahoo say.

Being ranked on this lofty perch brings immense responsibility and I can only hope to live up to the expectations of all those “stephen clark” searchers. It also means that there’s only one place to go, and that is down. Yeah, the next Stephen Clark will come along with his new CSS driven, standards compliant site, and knock me off my perch.

But until that happens, I’ll guess I’ll enjoy my new spot on top of the Googleplex.

Captain America

In a sad story today, Captain America was shot today outside the main courthouse.

What is even more interesting is that this story was a lead story on the front page of the NY Times website. Let me repeat, the venerable NY Times had a lead story, albeit a sad one, about a comic book hero on their website’s front page. That is just awsome!!

Grandmaster Flash

The other day I was coming home from work and I just happened to dial up the Fresh Air with Teri Gross podcast. Its not a podcast I listen to regularly, however whenever there is a good interivew on NPR, it always seems as though Teri Gross is the interviewer. In any case, the podcast I dialed up was from March 2 and it featured an interview with Grandmaster Flash, arguably the godfather and first true star of rap/hip hop music. Wether you are a fan of rap/hip hop or not, take a listen. Its an amazing interview in that Grandmaster Flash is able to transport you back to the early 1980′s when he was honing his craft and just investigating how far he could push the limits. What was also amazing was when Teri Gross asks him to do a voice over of what he was doing (artistically) while they listen to his seminal “The Message” mix.
